They Grow so Fast!!

Dear Friends and Family,

I understand many of you have been checking in daily for updates. It is amazing how hard it is to find any time in the day to get stuff done (including blog updates)- I honestly don't know where the day goes! We will try to keep the blog updated more frequently as we settle into our little routine at home with baby Carter.

Tuesday Carter had his first appointment at the Pediatrician's office so Ryan, Carter and I were forced to brave the outside world for the first time since bringing Carter home. I think we did alright since we made it there and back in one piece. The Pediatrician was pleased with Carter's progress and shocked to hear that he was successfully nursing despite a week's delay and the introduction of breathing tubes, feeding tubes, pacifiers and bottle feeds. Mom was pretty proud of this success. More news....Carter weighed in at 8 lbs. 8 oz.!! He has gained 1 lb. 1 oz. since birth which is great! When we left the hospital Friday he weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. so he has gained an average of 2 oz. per day since being discharged. That is 1 to 1 1/2 oz. above the daily weight gain average at this age and doctor, Mom and Dad were all pleased to see that he is thriving at home.

Carter enjoyed his first session of tummy time yesterday per the Doctor's recommendation and tolerated several minutes of it before tiring out. (that's good!)

Carter also met one of his "womb buddies", Riley Elizabeth, yesterday. Her mom, Casey, and I met at a nursing class through our doctor's office and have quickly become friends. Casey, Chris and Riley live just a block away and they came over to meet Carter and introduce him to Riley. Of course, in actuality, the parents chatted while the babies slept but there will be plenty of time for introductions later. For now, Carter is enjoying getting used to life at home and how happy we are that he is home!!!
