Carter started swim lessons the first week of May. He attends Jan Thomas Swim School which has been a local landmark here in Fresno for over 50 years. Jan herself still runs the school and is very involved and her daughter, Becky, is one of the instructors here. One of the kids we've met through swim class is Sophia and her mom is Angie. They are really nice and Carter and Sophia play together in the wading pool after class most days. Angie and her siblings all learned to swim at Jan Thomas' Swim School and most anyone who grew up here in Fresno will tell you that they, too, learned to swim here. Pretty cool!
Carter is enjoying his lessons. His instructor is Jocelyn and she is very loving and encouraging. The first few lessons were the roughest on both baby and Mom since you are actually putting your baby in the water, face down, and helping them learn to hold their breath. Of course, the first several tries they drink water and that scares them so there was a lot of crying from all the babies on our first few lessons. After Carter got the hang of it, he really seems to enjoy swimming. We've signed up for a 2nd set of lessons for June.
