I'm going to Disneyland!!

A couple hours after check-in, we went downstairs for storytime by the "campfire" and Carter met his first Disney characters in person. Most kids this age seem to be afraid of people in costume but when Carter saw the brown bear, he led me right up to him and gave him a hug, played with his snout and then grabbed his hand and took him for a walk around the lobby! It was the cutest thing ever! We had to pull Carter away from "his" bear friend in order to let the other children have a chance to meet him!

After playing with his bear friend, Carter and I enjoyed stories by the campfire. He was riveted watching the storyteller.
The trip just kept getting better and better. Carter LOVED the rides and we took him on all the rides they allowed him on. He sat with both hands on the lap bars and watched everything intently. At the end he sometimes even clapped!
We brought the first of 3 storms with us when we rolled into town on Thursday but we made the best of it. It rained, no poured, every day we were at the park. Luckily, we had purchased a weather shield for the BOB and it was the best investment we could have made! It kept Carter dry and also shielded him from the wind. He was the coolest dude in a stroller at park! If you look closely, he is grinning ear to ear in this picture.

Daddy bought Carter the Mickey Mouse balloon in this picture on our last night at the park and he refused to let go of it the entire time. He actually threw a fit (very unlike him) when we took it away so we could go on a ride! Now that we are home, Carter is still carrying his Mickey balloon around the house with him, to the changing table for diaper changes, and even in the stroller on walks around the neighborhood!
Carter is having a big learning spurt. In a matter of less than 1 week he has learned to wave hello and goodbye, clap his hands, say "mmmm!" when he eats something he likes, stick his tongue out to get a reaction (not sure I should have taught him that one!!), he also says "uh-oh" when he drops something and what sounds like Mama, Dada and More ("mum"). He is also on the brink of walking although he still prefers to hold a hand (and usually a toy...or his Mickey balloon...too!).
Well, a more appropriate title would be "We went to Disneyland!" The Clift Clan took a road trip to Anaheim, CA for Carter's very first (but certainly not last!) trip to the happiest place on earth! The trip was Dad's idea and I wasn't sure if Carter was ready for all this excitement being only 11 months old but he absolutely LOVED it! We stayed at the Grand Californian Hotel on the Disney's California Adventure property.
When we first arrived, while Dad checked us in, Carter met a very nice disney employee who had three balloons made up just for him! Carter loves balloons and would not let go of his balloons even while "cruising". Mom actually had to hide the balloons to get him to go to sleep!

Because of the weather, we ended up extending our stay through Monday and then again through Monday night, Tuesday and Tuesday night. The weather was gorgeous Monday and Tuesday and the lines still very short. It was nice to catch a couple extra days of good weather.
You can see in the picture below, Cinderella's Castle looks more like a haunted mansion with all the storm clouds around it!
We had much better weather Monday and Tuesday (see, now the sun is shining)!

Wow, what a wonderful adventure you had at Disneyland. Soooo envious because you know how Dad and I LOVE Disneyland. Looks like Carter is following the family tradition of enjoying the Magic Kingdom, too.
Hugs to all....PS love the Mickey Balloon, Ryan.
I've never used this tool before, so hope this message lands safely. Indeed, the Disneyland trip must have been a wonderful family adventure - even with some fowl weather. It's remarkable that Carter stepped right up to the character - 'cuz you're right, most young ones dive for mom. And now mom and dad, this trip will become a frequently, recurring event! Grandpa Ron
