There's no doubt about it, this boy loves animals (and insects too!) and the outdoors. A couple weeks ago, Carter had his first worm introduction. We were walking to the park across from our house and we spotted a worm stranded in the street. I picked the worm up and together we placed the worm on the grass where he quickly dug his way into the earth. Carter was fascinated by this! That same week at school, Carter and his friends found some worms in the play yard. Carter held the worm in his hand and then gently put it on the ground so it could dig back into the earth just as we had done together a few days before. I asked Carter about the experience later that day. I asked him what it felt like when he held the worm in his hand and he replied "Tickled!" with a crinkled nose and a smile. He then said "Wiggled!" and through words and motions recounted to me how he had put the worm down on the ground and it went away. Today, Carter had yet another exciting worm experience. After moving a pot in the play yard, he discovered many worms which, without hesitation, he quickly picked up between his fingers and placed in his palm where it "tickled!" and "wiggled!".
